A Few Of My Favorite Things

Every web page needs one - a page of great links.  I've put a brief description of each link so you'll know what you're getting into.  Hopefully you'll find some useful information along the way.  Or at least some mild entertainment.  I'll be adding them as I go along, so check back.

CARA Fund - CARA is dedicated to raising funds for Cocker Spaniels in need and distributing these funds to other rescues through grants. As a member of the Board of Directors, I can attest to the fact that the funds raised go to Cocker Spaniel rescues across the country.  Grants are awarded on a case by case basis - a dog must be in need and an estimate from the veterinarian must be provided before an application will be considered.  CARA has already helped a number of dogs in need of immediate attention  - including Miss Hope.  Please visit CARA and see the happy faces of dogs we've already helped and our wonderful fund raisers.  Doggy Duds, chainsaw canines, custom embroidered pillow, raffles, auctions . . . you never know what you're going to find!

Betsy's Cocker Place - Jane and her girl, Betsy are working hard to take care of Cocker Spaniels and have stepped in to help many a dog in need, including Miss Hope. Jane has offered her talents to other groups to help them raise funds as well.  To quote Jane "I don't care who gets credit - it's about the dogs."  I'm particularly fond of the coats and the amazing custom embroidery pillows she does - any breed, dog or cat, she does 'em all!

Arkansas Great Dane Rescue - I will never be able to thank Mary, April and the others at AGDR for all their help and advice. I have many friends and people I can go to for advice when it comes to Cocker Spaniels, but none of them live near me.  AGDR is located in central Arkansas and they have made room for me and my band of cocker spaniels on more than one occasion. These fine folks do amazing things for a gentle, frequently misunderstood breed. If you've ever considered a Great Dane, these are the folks to contact.

Petfinder.com - Think of it as an online animal shelter.  A shelter with over 8000 animal adoption groups and 180,000 pets for you to consider.  Individuals looking for a new family member can go online and search on criteria to find those pets that closely match what they need. And you can't imagine the amazing animals waiting for you there.  Dream of owning a hairless Chinese Crested girl who's great with kids?  Or perhaps a declawed American Wirehaired cat is more your heart's desire. A Llama maybe?  Just about any animal you would consider for a pet can be found out on Petfinder and all of them are waiting for homes. Each animal is listed with a brief description, almost always a picture, and contact information so you find out more about each animal and start the adoption process (you didn't think they'd just hand an animal over to a total stranger did you?)   I love this website . . . they fill such a big need in animal rescue and they do it well.

Vilonia Animal Clinic - I cannot say enough good things about the staff and care my kids receive at this clinic. They've pulled Hope through more than a few "incidents" and have treated my kids with as much as love and compassion as I could ever hope for.  And they also cope well with me when I show up in tears with one of my kids or a sickly stray in my arms, which is a real good thing for all of us.

Livingston Taylor - I have been listening to Livingston Taylor since . . . well, never mind.  Let's just say more than a few years.  This past Christmas I had an idea for a rescue video, but what I needed was the perfect song.  That's when I thought of Liv's "dog trilogy" and the song "You Can Take me Home."  If you've never heard Liv's music, never seen him in concert, well should check out his web page now because you are in for a treat.  (And be sure to watch the video, too.)
